New soccer cleats must fit properly. They need to be snug, but provide arch support. Don’t wear cleats that restrict the movement of the ankles. The wrong pair of cleats may cause more damage than assistance, so choose wisely.

The type of cleats you buy greatly depends on the level of soccer playing ability you have. If you are just beginning, synthetic or plastic cleats should suffice. Players that are more advanced need to work with ones that have screw in metal in them because they can be used just about anywhere.

Using the instep to kick provides great accuracy. If it is a long pass, then the front of the foot is better. This will help you kick the ball further.

The Outside Elastico is an easy, yet helpful trick you should learn. This is a trick that can help you get inside when you’re dealing in the flanks. Practice this by placing a shoe, bag or cone on the ground. Move five or so steps backward. Start dribbling to it. When you approach the cone, lightly touch the outside of the ball and then the inside. The outside touch is what fools your opponents. Remember, the second touch should be stronger than the first one.

Make the opposition think you have pattern when you cross the soccer ball the same way for several plays. Your opponents will begin to expect this play. You can then surprise the opposite team and buy a few seconds by crossing the ball in the other direction or by not crossing at all.

You need to give both ends of the field attention when you are at midfield. Be prepared to get the ball from a player on one end and immediately get it transferred to the other. By knowing where every defender is and where the open players are, you can be ready to help in scoring a goal.

To improve your dribbling skills, use a tennis ball to practice. By practicing with a small ball, you will become accustomed to making adjustments to your feet to keep control of the ball. When this becomes comfortable, using a regulation soccer ball will seem easy.

Try playing soccer indoors on occasion rather than outdoors. Whenever you practice indoors, you are practicing on a smaller field. This will force you to work on decision making and ball control. As a result, you will perform better when back outdoors.

The soccer game is not as physically demanding as American football, but it is still physical. Do not worry about running into another player. Getting physical doesn’t mean you’re playing a dirty game. Purposely kicking another player is dirty, but rough play isn’t. If physicality frightens you, you have to try to get over that. Avoid injury by always wearing protective equipment.

Finally, it’s time to take what you’ve learned onto the field and put it to the test. There has been some great advice in the provided tips and they will definitely come into play during play – no pun intended! Consider what you know and keep learning as you go. Remember to have a good time!
